Description

People are at the heart of YCC. As Director of HR, you’ll be managing and leading the team responsible for recruiting, developing, and supporting our members, organising and delivering weekly training sessions to project teams, handling queries, conflicts, and complaints, and ensuring our policies, contracts and code of conduct remain current and upheld. You’ll collaborate closely across all departments, representing HR on the Senior Leadership Team and reporting directly to the Managing Partner(s). For these reasons the ideal candidate is an organised, timely, people-first leader and team member who can manage competing priorities, drive continuous improvement, and foster a culture where every member can thrive.

Responsibilities

Culture & EDI

  • Responsible for shaping the culture and environment of the organisation, creating a welcoming work space that promotes continuous growth
  • Promoting YCC’s values, actively encouraging that a good idea can come from anywhere regardless of background or place in the organisation’s hierarchical structure
  • Actively review internal structures and processes each semester to see if there are any areas for improvement of EDI
  • Provide ongoing support for all members, promoting both individual and career growth and offering feedback and support in employment areas (CVs, interview support, assessment centre tips etc.)

Training

  • Lead the training program for the project teams
  • Plan, create, and carry out weekly training sessions for project teams
  • Work alongside the Director of ER&M to plan external speakers for training when appropriate
  • Ensure that feedback forms are sent at the end of each training cycle to gain feedback, take on board suggestions and make changes accordingly
  • Ensure that each officer takes part in presenting a session/slides
  • Use these sessions as check in points with teams each week to see how their projects are doing - converse with both the PM and Cs and SCs to identify an areas needing support

Recruitment

  • Oversee the recruitment cycle (outreach, organisation of timeline, interviews, judges house, onboarding, induction)
  • Manage the organisation of fresher’s fair and its use as an outreach opportunity for semester 1 recruitment
  • Co-lead judges house with the Managing Partner to fairly select suitable candidates
  • Work alongside the tech department to ensure recruitment feedback forms are created, analysing the feedback to action improvements for future recruitment cycles/other recruitment areas (e.g., emails, recruitment related pages on the website etc.)
  • Organise and co-present induction each semester alongside the Managing Partner

Leadership

  • Attend all directors and committee meetings, engaging and providing input accordingly
  • Plan at least two department meetings a semester, bookending the beginning and end: initial establishment of expectations, and then the review of outcomes of the semester’s work
  • Use training sessions as an opportunity to regularly catch up with HR Officers, these slots acting as informal meetings each week

Wellbeing and Support

  • Act as first line advisor for any and all HR-related queries and concerns across the organisation, delivering advice as and when with the support of our policies and procedures
  • Proactively manage both formal and informal disputes and internal employee relations cases, monitoring these and working collaboratively with those involved using our policies and procedures and escalate accordingly
  • Ensure resignations and dismissals follow YCC policies and procedures and that employee records are corrected accordingly alongside the Director of Technology
  • Provide effective and timely wellbeing support, signposting colleagues to appropriate resources and support

GDPR

  • Work alongside the Managing Partner and Director of Technology to ensure all processes and procedures follow YCC’s GDPR policy, regularly monitoring and ensuring security by making sure no data is held for longer than necessary
