About the Client

Door 84 is a well established youth and community centre based in York, providing inclusive and supportive services for children, young people and families. It offers safe spaces and activities that promote skill development, personal growth and social connection within the local community.

Project Outline

The project aimed to strengthen Door 84's financial sustainability and community engagement by developing a clear strategy for income generation and marketing. In light of the recent conclusion of lottery funding in March and increasing competition for local resources, the project explored a range of diverse funding opportunities and assessed best practices from comparable organisations.

It also supported the development of a more strategic and targeted marketing approach to better engage the local community - increasing Door 84's visibility, attracting new supporters and building long term organisational resilience.

Project Outcomes

The project saw YCC consultants identify several strategic opportunities available to Door 84 to enhance their financial sustainability and local community engagement. YCC consultants identified that their key areas of improvement were in Fundraising and Marketing, with each area having their own retrospective team. The Fundraising team established a stability blueprint to secure reserves, backed up with strategic recommendations to diversify their income stream. Simultaneously, the Marketing team concentrated on increasing awareness in wider York and local firms, leveraging data to optimise engagement through advertising and templates, tailored to reaching out to businesses.
